June 13th, 2017 Hard-Work is the only way to obtain success
I want to start this blog post off a little differently than others, I want to first put you the reader in my shoes. I want you to see the world as I am currently experiencing it. Right now it's a little after six pm and I am in StarBucks, drinking a large dark roast black with no sugar. I've been up since seven in the morning and had only one meal so far which was at five pm. My arms are still covered with cement dust and my shirt shows sweat patches. Even though it is time for most people to leave work, my work day is just beginning. You might be asking yourself, why am I telling you all of this. The reason why I'm telling you all of this is because I want to talk about hard work.
Many people say they work hard at their job, but are they really? Most people are at work for eight hours a day, but how many hours are actually spent working? In all my years of working, in a typical eight-hour shift I can honestly say I work about four hours. I'm not saying that the other four hours are spent doing nothing. Working retail is reliant on customers coming in. I know that during down time you're expected to make some calls, but let's be honest that often doesn't happen. So if you add up all the time I actually spent working it would be about four hours. Well, that was before I got "hungry" again. Being a full time an entrepreneur has taught me the real meaning of hard work.
Before you all start commenting below saying producing content isn't that hard, hold on. Right now at the time of writing this paragraph, it is a little after ten pm. Four hours have passed since I started this post and the reason why is because I was busy with another task. I don't only produce content through the internet. I also work as a freelancer for a construction company, I deliver food at times, I am a business consultant for many people, I am co-writing a book, I also act as a financial adviser for some clients and finally I run a business full-time. That's a long list of responsibilities but there is a perfectly good reason for that. The reason I'm doing so much is that success requires hard work. Some people model Tim Ferris and his "4-hour work week", unfortunately, I try and model entrepreneurs like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold Schwarzenegger exercised, did bricklaying, took college classes, took acting classes and ran a business all within a twenty-four hour period.
Listen, I'm not telling you all of this to make you feel sorry for me. Some people consider me to be somewhat successful because of my achievements. The only reason I was able to achieve anything in my life is because of hard work. If I learned anything from Mark Cuban it's the power of sweat equity. Sweat equity is the effort we put into our business, the actual work that we do to succeed. Success does not require loads of money it requires hard work and sweat. If you are unhappy with your position at work then outwork everyone and get a promotion. If you put in the work, people will notice. Think about the famous quote, "If you build it, they will come", you have to put in the work to see the results. If you're not planting the seeds then you will not see a harvest.
