January 8th 2018 Time Flies, Stop Letting Things Just Happen
The saying "Time flies when you're having fun" is a lie. Time flies no matter what it doesn't care if you're having fun or not. Sounds harsh but this is one of my famous real talk post. So get ready for an unfiltered post.
In Episode 16 of The Books By Josh Show, I said that I let life happen to me. Some of the fans of my content might not know what I meant by that. So let me start this post by explaining what I meant with that saying. I simply meant that instead of working hard to make opportunity happen, I just let the days pass me by. I would get off work and start relaxing rather than grinding. Of course I know that the one of the few things I have in common with someone like Elon Musk is that we both have twenty four hours in a day. My most valuable resource wasted, why? I honestly can't tell you the exact reason, I played a victim in this game called life. Just like Stallone said in Rocky Balboa, no one hits harder than life. So how did I manage to stop letting life happen to me?
The first thing I had to do to get out of my slump was to acknowledge three simple things. The first thing I had to acknowledge was that life sucks. Some of us are dealt crappy hands by life and there's no point complaining about it. Just look at Oprah, she was given a crappy hand, yet she was able to turn it around. Why you ask, because she didn't let the hand she was dealt dictate her life. Rather she used it to motivate her to do better and the rest is history.
The second thing I had to come to turns with was... We have only one life to live. Yes, its as simple as that, once I started to understand this fact my outlook changed. Because of this I learned to not pay as much attention to the negativity. If you don't understand the power of this saying let me spell it out for you. WE HAVE ONLY ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Why should we let someone else live our only life for us? Every morning wake up and tell yourself this, let's see if you allow your day go to waste. If you still manage to somehow not seize the day the third thing will change your outlook.
The final and most powerful thing I had to realize was... Our time on this planet is limited and we don't know which day will be our last. I know that I'm sounding like a broken record, but this is hard for many of us to come to terms with. If you were told that you only had a year to live, how would you live that year? I put out a short video on this subject which you can check it out here https://goo.gl/TjeyRX . If we started living each day as it was our last think of all the crap we wouldn't care about anymore. We wouldn't care about the weather or say that we will wait until tomorrow to start that big project.
Those three facts will never change so we can either learn to accept them or live in denial. What was the purpose of this post? I just wanted to clarify something I said in one of my recent podcast episode. I could write about ten thousands more words for this post but it wouldn't matter. The only thing that can determine what you learn from this post is you. Seize the day and make life happen for you. Open the doors that are locked through hard work and stop complaining.
