November 25th 2018 Let's Learn from a Man with a Watch

Hey Joe’s and Joette’s, I decided to do one of my famous philosophy posts. Today’s teaching comes from Lee Segall. Who is Lee Segall, I have no idea but this quote is quite powerful. So buckle up and get ready to learn from an unknown person.

So what is this powerful quote, “A man with one watch knows what time it is; a man with two watches is never quite sure.” I know what you’re thinking this quote is dumb and makes no sense. I own around nine watches but I still learned an important lesson form this teaching. The most obvious teaching you can take away from this is having too many choices can lead to uncertainty. When you have only watch you use it to tell time, but if you have a second one that shows a different time you will second guess yourself. Do you know a similar teaching to this? The grass is not always greener on the other side. Hear me out but I’m going to start a new paragraph to explain it.

Many people dream of success and are often unhappy with their current situation. When we go on things like social media we start to envy our friends and the lives they are living. We see everyone posting their new cars and their latest vacation. We start looking for other ways to make money you might start doing some side hustles or you might even try to find a new job. You might even do what I did and quit a decent job to go deliver food full time for an app. I listened to someone who used to deliver food for an app and they made it sound so easy to make a quick buck. I delivered food for a whole three days and made twelve dollars and about three dollars in tips. I went from making a salary plus commission to make less than twenty dollars I drank the proverbial kool-aid and believed that the grass was greener on the other side.

Well not everyone is looking to change careers don’t worry this teaching has more knowledge to give. If you dig deep you can see one more teaching. When presented with too many choices we have difficulties picking one. Think about the old saying “Like a kid in a candy store.” If you ever visited a new restaurant you probably had a hard time choosing a dish. That’s the hidden meaning to this quote, sounds simple but it’s complex. After leaving school many of us do not know what we want to do in life. We can do anything we want yet at the same thing we don’t.
